I look for something every day to enrich my life with a little bit of humor. Sure, the curve balls are coming at me fast, but what's life without a good belly laugh? Okay, I couldn't really indulge myself in real laughter, but I was enormously amused at a fellow substitute yesterday.
Since teachers flock together at the lunch tables, I sat down with a young man also wearing the substitute name badge that makes us all stand out in the crowd. I asked him how his day was going, and he replied, "Fine." That was it folks. He then looked away and out the window. I pretty much decided that I would eat in silence.
Oh, no. Did he just do what I thought he did? Yes, folks, he did. He peeled an orange and started spitting the seeds out with such force that they hit his tray with a might zing. The first time I heard it, I decided it had to be an accident. But, no, it was real, and that orange must have had at least six seeds. They were ejected from his mouth so fast and hard that I'm surprised I wasn't injured.
It made me realize that it takes all kinds in life, and not all kinds are friendly. Strange maybe, but not always friendly.
