The final experiment for the teens on this reality show made more sense to me than all of the others. This time, instead of taking care of babies, toddlers, and teens, the teen couples got to find out what it was like to take care of elderly people. All of the participants seemed to enjoy themselves.
The older adults freely offered advice to the teenagers, and the amazing part was that the teens actually listened. All of the stress from the earlier segments just sort of washed away as the teens bonded with their new house guests. There wasn't any fighting, gnashing of teeth, or running away. Maybe it's because the older people were saved for last. Regardless of the reason, they did seem to have a calming influence over the teens.
The show itself was only a snapshot for these teens to see what it's really like to have the responsibility of another human. What they went through is actually easy compared to what it's really like to be a parent or a caregiver.
I'm not sure what other teenagers watching the show gleaned from the experience. All of the couples went their separate ways after the show, and education seemed to become more important to them than getting married and having babies. Hopefully, this learning will transfer to other teens who are moving way too fast to set up house and become parents.
