Funny sub story number one

I just love to laugh, and when something hits me as funny, every time I remember it, I break into smiles all over again.

Last week I had the job of substituting in an eighth grade class.  By the way, either eighth graders are getting taller, or I'm getting shorter.  Anyway, one boy asked me for help with an assignment, and I stepped behind him so I could see his paper a little better.  I clearly heard him mutter under his breath, "That's right, just walk on by."  When I responded, he was so shocked that I was still there that we both started laughing.

The kids tried the "name game" on me, and I had to laugh again.  Some things never change.

Kids...I'm sure you shocked him, and I'm sure he was embarrassed after being slightly rude, crude and unrefined to the sub! BTW, if ya thought my Friday Foto was Funny, you should check out the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes tomorrow. We'll be Sharing that Caption Love, ya know!

Betty, you are a gem!  You know just how to deal with 8th graders.  So few people in the world actually do.  I'm so glad they had you as a sub and that you brought your sense of humor in your bag of tricks.

I love my freshmen. Some folks run away, but I put them at the top of my wish list each year.

Not sure I could handle 8th graders, but you may it sound fun.

Cheers!

I was an 8th grade teacher for 2 years.  My first two years.  I was lucky because my oldest daughter was in 8th grade in a different town,so I knew their music, lingo, and all.  We had a great relationship.  I still see some of these kids (adults now) and I have had many of their own children (at parent request)  I loved teaching Junior High.  I was moved down to 5th grade because they were desparate for an ESL teacher and I was it.  It was easier to hire someone to teach 8th grade than ESL back then.  Now I love 4 & 5 grade too.  8th grade is fun if you let the kids know you know their game.  Good for you.

this story is hilarious...I bet he turned 50 shades of red when he noticed you were still there! :)

Oh, and thanks for the deep breathing idea! That is a good one to use while still in school! Who would have ever thought that something so simple could make you feel so much better??

I am going to add you to my blogroll and I look forward to reading more!

I think it's so important that you can laugh with your students.  Having a sense of humor is SUCH an important social skill.  Your students are so lucky to have you as a substitute!
