Everybody needs a Patrick Swayze. His role in Dirty Dancing is one that I will never forget. He totally supported the character Baby in her endeavors to develop a personality of her own and stand up for herself.
As school starts, there are always students and colleagues who need a little special help and support. This is such a busy time of the year that it's easy for these people to fall through the cracks and go unnoticed. There are those timid children sitting in class who need a friend. There are also teachers who feel overwhelmed and feel that they are left out of the loop.
Of course, not everyone wants help. It's nice to offer and see where it goes from there. Just letting a student or another teacher know that you are in their corner can make a world of difference.
