I am that substitute

For some reason I feel like Larryboy, the famous cucumber hero from Veggie Tales.  My oldest grandson loved Larryboy so much that we bought a spare for those times when the original figure went missing.  (I never thought I would get used to the term "went missing", but somehow, I have.)

I have signed up to substitute for this school year, and I must admit that although I am a retired teacher with a lot of years under my rather large belt, I am feeling a bit nervous.

Larryboy yells out, "I am that hero!", and in my mind I am now thinking, "I am that substitute!"  I am looking forward to the opportunity of being back in the classroom and working with kids.  Maybe all of you can give me some helpful hints.

I'm not sure why I am hung up on superheroes, but I think it might have something to do with Mr. Teacher and the Storm Troopers.

Perhaps I need this tote as part of my substitute attire.

I ran into my third grade teacher last year at a graduation party. She retired and went back to substitute as well. She loves it! When she wants to work, she accepts the day, when she doesn't she has the day to herself.

...and speaking of Veggie Tales, my aunt, a retired elementary teacher and principal, once said that VT would be perfect for her school kids if it weren't for the God messages one cannot post in a public school. Great kids programming!

I also like the idea of picking the days I want to work. It should be a lot of fun.  Some of my friends are substituting and also love it.  I can't wait for that first call.:)

Hey, you'll do great! My favorite subs are the retired teachers. They SO know what they're doing, and can navigate around all the arcane hoo-haw that the admins throw their way. Don't be nervous--it'll be a blast! Hey--thanks for visiting & come back soon--we've got lots more groovy info, Jersey Questions, and, of course, the neat Asbury Park, NJ, prizes at the end of the week!

I also have favorite subs amoung the retired.  They follow my lesson plans and do what is expected.  The non-teachers do not.  I hate having them.  That would explain why I have 130+ sick days on my account.

This just means that soon, you will have loads of classroom tales again. I can't wait! Good luck! I wish I were your student. :)

Retired, yet still working?

Congradulations on your health!

I know many retired people who wish they could work.  Some think that a person's health rapidly deteriorates when they stop working.

I love being a sub, however I am very excited that my being a sub has led me to the opportunity to be a full-time teacher this year. (My first year teaching)
