Everybody looks forward to summer vacation, but it seems like a lot of teachers and kids are already gearing up for school. My grandsons are now delighted when I ask them who their teachers might be. A couple of weeks ago they would have given me the eye roll and the "I don't want to think about that now" look. Now they are quite willing to talk about going back to school.
It's not that the summer hasn't been exciting. They have gone to the lake, the beach, the pool, and the library. Plus, my grandsons have participated in all kinds of sports this summer. Today we are going to the circus. Of course, the boys have a lot of free time as well, but the excitement of going back to school is something special that takes place every year.
For those who don't know why teachers teach, just reading a few blogs about going back for a new school year will answer that question. There's nothing better than fixing up a new classroom and anticipating eager faces as they show up on the first day of school.
Teachers are very similar to the kids. There is a nervousness that goes along with starting a new year, but it's a good kind of nervousness. Making room decorations, planning lessons, rearranging desks. It's all good.
In the meantime, I do believe that Storm Trooper B has a few more activities planned for those grandsons before school starts. I think I missed the big comic event being attended by Mister Teacher and need to make up for lost time.
