Retired teacher takes up boxing

I will probably not be able to move tomorrow.  Today I went to the gym and tried both hands at boxing.  Believe me, it's much harder than it looks.  My dad used to spend Friday nights in front of the television watching boxing.  He would jump up and look like he was in the ring himself.  As a kid, I always wondered what was so fascinating about the sport.  The guys look like they are just dancing around and occasionally punching at each other.  Personally, I never cared for the sport.

I'm not really planning a new career.  I am just boxing for exercise and also want to learn a few self defense moves.  Today's work out reminded me of how things come easier to some people than others.  That's why the best teachers are patient and willing to take things one step at a time.

As the summer approaches, I think it's time for everyone, young and old, to try to learn something totally different from what they normally do and to practice those skills that they do have.

Okay, being an occasional couch potato is a good idea too.
