Teaching kids internet safety makes good sense.
Gov. Matt Blunt and Miss Missouri, Lindsay Casmaer, helped launch a new program Tuesday to teach children to stay safe on the Internet.
The program — known as INOBTR, shorthand for “I know better” — received a $150,000 grant from the state to raise awareness of sexual predators lurking online. The program is designed to fulfill the public relations part of the U.S. Justice Department’s initiative against the sexual exploitation of children in cyberspace.
“There are really two parts of this effort: public awareness and aggressive prosecution,” said U.S. Attorney John Wood of Kansas City.
Technology is here to stay, and fancier tech related products show up daily. In fact, most kids are better with technology than a lot of adults. When I play video games with my grandsons, my character usually just runs into walls and spins in circles. (Maybe they are just imitating me.) I hope the program in Missouri goes well. I am looking forward to reading about its progress. The more educated the kids are about the dangers, the better off we will be. Teaching them to be responsible and safe when going on the internet is a great idea. Maybe they will even teach their parents and grandparents a thing or two.
